Similar to its utility as a versatile usable hunting dog must possess all of the breed requisite system and be useful for all field work, in forest and water.

History:
The Wirehaired Pointer is a wiry, Standing hound, as of the start of breeding work at the end of the 19. century (Korthals Griffon) was raised on the basis of the ideas of "Hegewald" (Sigismund Freiherr von Zedlitz and Neukirch).
It expressly stated purpose was to create a creature fast and efficient wiry, German hunting dog. Following the principle "Through performance to type" and by consistently taking into account freedom of breeding, occurred in a short time from the best material ruhårs (Pudelpointer, Korthals Griffon, German Stichelhaar), with supply of Shorthaired Pointer hunting dog, which was distinguished by its practical, weatherproof coat and versatility on all hunting-related areas. Because of these characteristics the breed in a few decades has become the most popular and proven by the large hunting dogs in Germany and many other countries of the world.
Overall impression:
Standing hunting dog of noble appearance, with a hard coat, which completely protects skin. Its expression is alert and energetic. The movement should be powerful, good reach, fluid and harmonious.
Proportions:
The body length and height at the withers must have substantially the same. Body length may be up to 3 sm height at the withers.
Temperament:
Safe, restrained, equable, not vildtsky, neither shot sensitive, sky eller aggressiv.
Main:
Similar to body size and sex of the dog. Head lines are slightly divergent (move apart onwards).
Skull: Flat, only slightly rounded on the sides, moderat bred. Distinctly developed eyebrows.
Stop: Discernible.
Nose: Strongly pigmented corresponding to the coat. Wide-open nostrils.
Muzzle: Far, wide, strong and deep. Let "roman nose".
Lips: Thick, fitting and not overhanging lips. Well pigmented, the coat color.
Jaws, bid: Large teeth. Powerful jaws with regular and complete scissor bite, ie upper row of incisors without any gap at the bottom, and the teeth are placed vertically in the jaw. With 42 teeth according to tooth formula.
Eyes:
As dark as possible, neither too deep, nor protruding, with a living and alert expression. Well pigmented lids, fitting close to eyeball.

At the bottom of the legs and bottom of the chest and belly hair is shorter, yet close.

Colour:
• Brunskimmel, with or without patches.

Error:
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault, and the seriousness

• Very loose eyelids.
