History:
The Wirehaired Pointer is a wiry, Standing hound, as of the start of breeding work at the end of the 19. century (Korthals Griffon) was raised on the basis of the ideas of "Hegewald" (Sigismund Freiherr von Zedlitz and Neukirch).
It expressly stated purpose was to create a creature fast and efficient wiry, German hunting dog. Following the principle "Through performance to type" and by consistently taking into account freedom of breeding, occurred in a short time from the best material ruhårs (Pudelpointer, Korthals Griffon, German Stichelhaar), with supply of Shorthaired Pointer hunting dog, which was distinguished by its practical, weatherproof coat and versatility on all hunting-related areas. Because of these characteristics the breed in a few decades has become the most popular and proven by the large hunting dogs in Germany and many other countries of the world.
Overall impression:
Standing hunting dog of noble appearance, with a hard coat, which completely protects skin. Its expression is alert and energetic. The movement should be powerful, good reach, fluid and harmonious.
Proportions:
The body length and height at the withers must have substantially the same. Body length may be up to 3 sm height at the withers.
Temperament:
Safe, restrained, equable, not vildtsky, neither shot sensitive, sky eller aggressiv.
Main:
Similar to body size and sex of the dog. Head lines are slightly divergent (move apart onwards).
Skull: Flat, only slightly rounded on the sides, moderat bred. Distinctly developed eyebrows.
Stop: Discernible.
Nose: Strongly pigmented corresponding to the coat. Wide-open nostrils.
Muzzle: Far, wide, strong and deep. Let "roman nose".
Lips: Thick, fitting and not overhanging lips. Well pigmented, the coat color.
Jaws, bid: Large teeth. Powerful jaws with regular and complete scissor bite, ie upper row of incisors without any gap at the bottom, and the teeth are placed vertically in the jaw. With 42 teeth according to tooth formula.
Eyes:
As dark as possible, neither too deep, nor protruding, with a living and alert expression. Well pigmented lids, fitting close to eyeball.
Ears:
Means Store, high and broad and not focused.
Throat:
Medium, with powerful musculature. Slightly arched neckline and dry throat line.
Body:
About Linie: Straight and slightly sloping.
Lacking: Excessively.
Back: Fast, med god muskulatur.
Loin: Short, broad, muscular loins.
Croup: Far and wide, slightly sloping and well muscled. Wide pelvis.
Breast: Wide and deep, forechest distinctly. Breastbone reaching as far as possible backwards. Well sprung ribs.
Underlinie, bug: Slightly tucked in an elegant curved backwards, dry.
Hale:
Carried in continuation of the backline, as horizontal as possible or directed slightly upwards, not steeply.
Neither too thick or thin. Appropriately docked for hunting. (In countries with a ban on docking the tail can be preserved natural. It should then be able to reach the hock and carried straight or slightly saber.)

General: Front legs are straight and parallel, seen from the side, standing well under kroppen. The distance from the ground to the elbows should be about the same as from the elbows to the withers.
Shoulders: Well inclined and laid back and strongly muscled. Good angle between shoulder and upper arm.
Upper Arm: As long as possible, with good and lean muscles.
Elbows: Close to the body, neither into- or udaddrejede. Good angulation upper arm / forearm.
Underarm: Dry and vertical, with strong bones.
Wrists: Powerful.
Pastern: Very slightly sloping.
Forepaws: Oval / lap, knit toes and sufficiently thick, Robust solid og trædepuder , there are well pigmented. Feet set parallel, neither able or movement point into- nor out.
Bagpart:
General: Seen from the rear straight and parallel. Well bent knees- Knowing haseled. Strong bones.
Thighs: Far, broad and muscular, with good angulation between pelvis and upper thigh.
Knee: Powerful, with good angulation of the- og underlår.
Underlår: Far, muskuløst og stock.
Haseled: Heavily.
Hock: Short, vertical.

Motion:
With considerable range, good reach and good drive. Både for- and hind legs is moved straight and parallel. God, raised position during movement.
Hud:
Tight, adjacent, without wrinkles.
For:
Coat: Wiry and hard, close and dense. The top coat is 2 to 4 cm lange, and the undercoat is dense and water-repellent. The body must not be obscured by longer coat. The coat should by its hardness and density give the best possible protection against weather and scratches.
At the bottom of the legs and bottom of the chest and belly hair is shorter, yet close.
On the head and ears the hair is shorter, while more close, but not softer. The prominent brows, and a not too long beard, that is as hard as possible, underlines the energetic facial expressions.
Colour:
• Brunskimmel, with or without patches.
• Black Mold, with or without patches.
• Brown, with or without white chest patch.
• Light-mold.
Other colors are not permitted.
Size:
Skulderhøjde for hanner 61 to 68 cm, Females 57 to 64 cm.
Error:
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault, and the seriousness
should be in exact proportion to its degree.
Serious errors:
• Short, narrow or pointed muzzle.
• Weak bite.
• Very loose eyelids.
• Sway, karperyg.
• Stærkt covered.
• Strong out- or Elbows turned.
• Hjulbenet, According eller hasesnæver, as well in as in movement.
• Permanent amble in walk and trot. Stiff or choppy gait.
• Thin coat, lack of undercoat.
Eliminating faults:
• Underbid, overbid, krydsbid, missing teeth P1. Canines biting close together.
• Entropy, ektropion, different colored eyes.
• Congenital crack- or stumphale.
• Pigmentfejl.
• Any kind of weak creature, especially missed shot firmness, Furthermore vildtskyhed,
aggressiveness, nervousness, fear-biting.
Note:
Male animals should have two normal testicles into the scrotum.
Danish Kennel Club's remark:
Conditions, that affect a dog's health negatively, considered a serious error.
